Who conducts the assessment?
The assessment is conducted by clinical psychologists (Markus Lien and Felix Enghoff Klich) using DIVA-5 as the diagnostic interview, recommended by the Danish Health Authority. Medical treatment is handled by psychiatrist Rasmus Wæhrens (specialist in psychiatry, PhD) and Martin Bergholtz (senior psychiatry resident).
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly at Alethia without a referral from your GP. If you are a member of Sygeforsikring Danmark (group 1, 2, 5, 6), 25 or younger, and have a GP referral, you may be eligible for a refund on assessment and psychotherapy.
Which tools are used in the ADHD assessment?
The initial clinical interview is semi-structured and covers somatic history, medication, prior assessments and treatment, family disposition, lifestyle factors, social circumstances, upbringing, schooling, premorbid personality, and full psychopathological screening (depression, mania, anxiety, trauma, psychosis, autism, attention, personality) alongside an objective psychiatric assessment.
Our assessment follows the Danish Health Authority's National Clinical Guidelines (NKR) for adult ADHD. The diagnosis is made using the recommended DIVA-5 interview, supplemented by ASRS screening.
When clinical observations indicate comorbidity or a need for further assessment, we use targeted validated instruments: WAIS-5 (IQ), ITQ (trauma), Y-BOCS (OCD), MDQ (bipolar and affective disorders), SCID-5-SPQ (personality structure), and autism screening (RAADS-R, CAT-Q, SQ-R, AQ-R, Aspie Quiz) when AuDHD overlap is suspected.
We screen broadly from the first session because up to 80 percent of adults with ADHD have at least one other psychiatric condition, and the average number of comorbid diagnoses is three (Kooij et al., 2010).

A thorough assessment is essential because concentration difficulties can stem from many different causes. 70 to 80% of everyone with ADHD has at least one other condition, such as anxiety, depression, or autism. If you only look for ADHD, you risk missing something that fundamentally changes the treatment plan. That is why we screen broadly from the first session and use DIVA-5, the diagnostic interview recommended by the Danish Health Authority, to ensure an accurate diagnosis.

Frequently asked questions about ADHD assessment
ADD is an older term for the primarily inattentive type of ADHD, without the hyperactive component. Today, the term ADHD is used for all types, but a distinction is made between three presentations: primarily inattentive (formerly ADD), primarily hyperactive-impulsive, and combined type. At Alethia, we assess all three forms.
DIVA-5 (Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in Adults) is the most widely used semi-structured diagnostic interview for adult ADHD and is recommended in Danish clinical guidelines. The interview systematically reviews all ADHD criteria for both your current functioning and your childhood and takes approximately 2 hours. We recommend that a relative who knew you as a child participates, but the assessment can proceed without one. DIVA-5 is always administered by a clinician and cannot be completed as a self-test. An online screening such as our ADHD test (ASRS) is something you can take yourself; it can give an indication, but it does not replace the diagnostic interview.

Yes, we have psychiatrists affiliated with the clinic who can initiate and adjust ADHD medication as part of your treatment. Medication adjustment and monitoring is done continuously with follow-up consultations.
Regardless of the outcome, you receive a written report and an individual plan. If ADHD is confirmed, we can offer medical treatment and psychotherapy. If you don't meet the criteria for a diagnosis, we still review the results in a feedback session and make a plan together, e.g. therapy, psychoeducation, or further assessment for other conditions.
In the public system, ADHD assessment is free but the wait is typically 1.5–3 years. At Alethia, we have short wait times. Our multidisciplinary team ensures that assessment, diagnosis and medical treatment happen under one roof. No waiting for another referral after diagnosis.
